A battery light can be misleading in a way. You have done what seems obvious, but unfortunately, the real reason a battery light comes on is to tell you that there is something not functioning properly in your charging system. This means you have an alternator or voltage regulator problem. You need to have the peak amperage and voltage checked out of the charging system. You will probably find that one or the other or both is pretty much zero. Good luck.
