Battery Light & Break light came on on 2001 Nissan Altima

My car was running fine. Went to start it and the battery light and break light came on.

The battery light should come on when you turn on the ignition key and go out the moment the engine starts running. If the light doesn't go out once the engine is running usually the alternator has failed. With the engine running lightly tap with a hammer the alternator (top of the engine front passenger side) while someone is watching the lights on the dash, the moment you hit the alternator does the battery light go out? If so the alternator is bad internally. If not you need to check wiring and the charging circuit for power and check fuses ect....
