Question: battery going dead

If you test the charging system at 2000 RPM, and you only have output of 11.5 volts, you most certainly have an alternator problem (internal diode / voltage regulator issue).
Good news about the battery - in order to get a valid charging system test, you indeed had to purchase a new one following your food results. Money well spent.
