battery and cables on 2005 Honda Odyssey

when changing our battery my husband put the battery in backwards and hooked up the positive cable to the neg terminal. It sparked and he immediately removed the cable. the van would no longer start after the battery was put in properly. We checked the battery fuse and it was blown, so we replaced it. We then put in my husband truck battery until we could get a new battery for the van. It is running well but we have notice a faint smell as if something is burning. What do you recommend?
