On my 2000, its in front of the drivers front wheel. The wheel/tire must be removed then if the fasteners don't loosen after turning them, you have to force them out then fight the panel, and there it is! I just checked mine the other day and a few years after replacing the original battery it was low on water too. There is a bracket holding the battery, remove both bolts and then if your battery has a handle push and shove until it is free, remove the cables and it is out. I would suggest disconnecting the lead under the hood before starting if you intend on replacing the battery. I was able to refill the cells without disconnecting any cables but had to support the battery from the floor in order to move it out far enough where I could access the cells.
