The first thing that distinguished Autoscandia from much of their competition is that I got a straightforward price estimate over the phone for standard work, such as (in my case) a 190,000 mile service for a Volvo 940. My queries to other shops were met with frustratingly vague answers.
The next thing that I liked was that while my scheduled maintenance visit turned up several repairs, they were carefully explained and there were none of the typical high-pressure sales tactics one often encouters in these situations.
Finally, while I don't know if everyone gets this level of attention, the owner of the shop test-drove the car with me after the repairs were complete. I appreciated his personal attention and detailed explanation of the work done.
In summary, the work was cheaper than the shop I used to visit and I was treated better. My previous shop is across the street from me and it was still worth driving 35 minutes out to Autoscandia. I recommend Autoscandia unreservedly.
I took my beloved but battered ’01 VW Golf to Auto Scandia in Herndon yesterday as it had a check engine light and was running very rough. It has 92K miles on it and needed various repairs. The folks at Auto Scandia called with an estimate and I agreed to have them make the repairs.
When they were finished with what they believed were the problems, Jeremy, their VW/Audi Tech discovered that my recently replaced (Reston Automotive) timing belt was miss-adjusted, a spark plug wire needed replacement and several other minor repairs were necessary in order for her to function normally.
They made the additional repairs at no cost to me and my buggy runs better than she did when she was brand new. I also overheard them advising other customers (one with a Volvo with 170,000 miles that the repairs would be more than the trade-in value of the car.
I just wanted to share the wealth as we all know how difficult it is to find a trustworthy auto repair shop. And, no, I don’t have any friends or relatives who are employees.
I cannot say enough about AutoScandia. After years of taking my Volvos to the dealer for costly repairs I finally decided to try someone else. What I have found is not only is AutoScandia far less expensive, but they are more skilled, and don't make unnecessary repairs. The customer always comes first with them.
For the past twenty-two years I've brought my Volvos to Autoscandia. I really appreciate how patient the guys are when explaining what my car needs. They help me prioritize the repairs. No high pressure tactics! Their tone and attitude make me feel they really care - that I'm more than just a name on a key.
In fact, I know they care. 17 years ago, when I was involved in an auto accident late on Saturday, I had the car towed to Autoscandia. The shop owner was so alarmed when he saw the car, he called me at home Sunday morning to make sure the kids & I were okay!
Even with that incident, I wouldn't still be a customer if I didn't think the service and prices warranted my business.
