autoparts store says that that the transmission filter is external i cant see it on 1999 Hyundai Sonata

tell the parts store to look again. its internal if it has one, poss a metal screen you can clean and reuse.it could not have one and just req a drain and fill

Thank you for responding to my question. I got confused because they gave me a filter that resembled the oilfilter, same size, but it was clear this filter i located under the car was attached to he engine. I stopped and ask before I make a mistake. Again thank you.

Some Sonata's have them but if you can't find probably doesn't. This model should just have a screen- which can only be replaced or cleaned with transmission disassembly. With these normally just drain out and replace. May want to do again after 500 miles. My 2006 ford fusion has same- really easy, has drainplug on bottom- just as easy as changing your oil.

I believe if yours had one it would be located on bottom of radiator- at least that's what I've been told. I guess that's if you had the transmission cooler lines connected to it. I work at auto parts store and most of those filters get returned- they must be really uncommon.
