Question: Automatic Transmission/Shift Lock

Just recently purchased this vehicle and it just started having the problem of not being placed into drive without the aid of the key/shift lock mechanism. The manual says that if repeated use of this occurs we could damage the vehicle. I also have researched that this may be due to a solenoid and fuse problem (#1 and 39). Are there any other suggestions and or trouble shooting procedures you could recommend?

I've seen the shift lock solenoid fail and stick especially if soda or coffee gets spilled into the center console. If you do some of your own work or feel confident trouble shooting the problem I would suggest checking out Alldata its the same information most independent repair shops use. It has wiring diagrams, technical service bulletins component locations, repair procedures and more.

same problem happened to me,i took my car to super lube to get a transmisiion flush and the stupid kid that was working there kept moving my shift from D1 to D4 repeatedly. This caused my car shift locker to cease up,i had to use the key everytime i wanted to shift gears. It eventually went back to normal.I started to shift gears very very slowly from park to drive, try that and see if it works.
