1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse Q&A

1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse Question: Automatic Trans.

I have had problems with my transmission lately. It is slipping once it gets into the high gears. From 3rd to 4th Is there a fix to this without having to have it rebuilt? -
Answer 1
In simplest terms - probably not. Slipping is usually the result of an internal pressure issue or clutch slippage. Both are mechanical failures that would likely necessitate tear down and repair. -

The trans. may not shift out of 1st gear for several drive times in a row , then it may not occur for several weeks. I have had to stop on the side of the road and turn it off for atleast 2 min...
Transmission shifts fine until check engine light comes on then will not shift into high or low. It stays in the gear that it is in at that time. Might run for a mile or 10 miles before it does it.
