automatic leveling stuck in high position on 2003 Buick LeSabre

I had six adults in the car. Upon starting , I heard the compressor come on and stay on longer than usual. The compressor no longer comes on and the car appears to be in the high position. Potential problem(s)? Can the car be driven in this condition?

The car can be driven but as you probably already know the ride becomes very stiff. Some of the causes can be a damaged or disconnected height sensor or linkage, a faulty vent solenoid on the load level compressor, or a wiring issue between the height sensor and the compressor.
