Audi A8 Quattro Recall 06V454000
Air Bag Warning Light and Passenger Side Air Bag Off Lights May Come On
Body, Interior & Misc., December 5, 2006
RepairPal Expert Overview
Our Quick Take:
The vehicle requires a certain amount of battery voltage to operate all of its electrical components. The air bag warning light and passenger side air bag off notification light may both come on if the battery is slightly weak and allows the voltage level to get too low. This would keep the front passenger side air bag from deploying in an accident.
What Should You Do?
We at RepairPal have designated this a high priority recall; the passenger side air bag may not deploy in an accident. Please contact your Audi dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
The air bag warning light and passenger side air bag off notification light may illuminate due to low battery voltage. If this occurs, the passenger air bag will not deploy in an accident. Dealers will reprogram the air bag control module software. The Audi recall number is JR. This recall began on December 5, 2006.

Summary: ON CERTAIN VEHICLES WHERE A WEAK BATTERY EXISTS, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT A LOW VOLTAGE CONDITION COULD CAUSE THE AIR BAG CONTROL UNIT TO IMPROPERLY SET A FAULT CODE. IF THIS OCCURS, THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONTAL AIR BAG WILL BECOME DEACTIVATED. HOWEVER, BOTH THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AS WELL AS THE 'PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF' TELLTALE IN THE CENTER OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WILL ILLUMINATE AND PROVIDE VISUAL WARNING TO THE DRIVER.
Consequence: IF THE CASE OF A FRONTAL CRASH, THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT AIR BAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY WHICH COULD CAUSE INJURY TO THE SEAT OCCUPANT.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL UPDATE THE AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 5, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT AUDI AT 1-800-822-2834.
