thank you for your answer... i have an estimate for the work at $3949. it consists of:

labor:
rebuild transmission $1320.00
remove and replace valve cover gasket w plugs $280
remove and replace fuel tank $280

parts:
rebuild kit $549
filter $49.85
pump valve $279
intermid band $69
torque converter $229
starter kit $215
valve cover gasket kit $209
spark plugs laster type $112.74
evap hoses $109
trans audi fluid $99.50

w/ tax is the total 3 days till ready.

does that sound about right?

this should complete all repairs on the car. timing belt was done.

    I am glad you have all ready replaced the timing belt. The prices look in line for here in California. You know you have taken care of your car and they are a nice car (too bad they do cost a lot to maintain).
    For the money it will cost to repair your car you would not get a comparably comfortable and sporty car.
