Question
Hi there everyone. I own a 2003 Mercedes c230 Kompressor, AT trasmission. I got it 8 mounts ago. About 2 month later I noticed a noise and some vibrations going up hill on highways and loosing a bit of power. Then last week, the car would not stay on 5th gear and shit back to 4th going 70mph up in highway and it asks to add a quarter of oil. I add oil but then yesterday no more 4th gear, 3, 2 and 1 and then it stop. Now it's at the shop. The mechanic ask me $1700 for a used transmission + $1500 labor. I'm new in town and I have no idea who this guy is. I would like to hear your opinion. Thank you so much.
Answer #1
The cost of the used trans sounds ok but $1500 means about 15 hours of labor, which is way too steep. It should be about $600-700 in labor ( 6-7 hours). It does sound like your transmission has a major problem if it won't shift or stay in gear.
Answer #2
probably we have the same problem .it seam that you need to change the transmission conductor plate that's cost ~ $280
