2001 Chevrolet Malibu Question: Anti-Theft system is malfunctioning

Question

Frequently (3-4 times per day) the anti-theft system activates because the car does not start immediately. I have to wait 10 mins to try again. Is there any way to turn this off?

No, the theft system problem on your 2001 Chevrolet Malibu cannot be turned off. The problem you are having is most likely with the ignition lock cylinder which includes the "passlock" sensor. Theft system fault codes are set in the Body Control Module. Code B2960 is the fault code related to the ignition lock cylinder. A new lock cylinder will need to be "coded" to match your current key and a "theft system relearn" will need to be preformed after the lock cylinder is replaced.

if you leave your key in the ignition for 10 minutes the "theft system" light will turn off and you can start the car.
