My AM radio has continual static, some times and can only tune in local stations. The radius for good reception is about 20 miles. Somethimes when I encounter rough roads I lose the station completly. FM works perfectly.

    Sounds like the antenna or the antenna cable is bad. If you can wind the cable connection at the radio and the antenna, you should be able to wiggle it and verify where the static is coming from.
