1999 Nissan Altima Question: alternator

started car and alt started to smoke. after running for a minute, it actually caught fire. assuming it needs replacing, how do you take the serpentine belt off? -
Answer 1
Your alternator caught fire, you don't know why and you are asking how to take the serpentine belt off! You should be asking what caused the fire. Please get you 99 Altima to qualified repair shop as soon a possible! -
Answer 2
it is possible the bearings seized, but check the wiring before replacing with a new one, as far as the belt you will need a extra long 14mm wrench the tensioner is right under the alternator a little bit back to the fire wall, turn the wrench CLOCKWISE ONLY or you will damage the tensioner and will have be replaced -
