If your alternator is accessible without having to remove other parts, then this is usually simple to do so for a mechanically knowledgeable person. You will need just a few simple tools (screw driver, socket set, etc..). When you get it off after loosening the belt, make sure you get the belt tension to the correct spot. You should purchase or rent a Haynes or Chilton manual for further details.
