2003 Land Rover Freelander Question: airflow meter

 Rookie

I have a possible airflow meter fault can the meter be cleaned or airfilter replaced as other articles suggest. Also I have oil in the hose past the Airflow meter (Mass Airflow meter), what could that be from

    If you have oil on your Air Filter and Mass Air flow Sensor, then your PCV system is plugged or restricted and needs to be cleaned, you may have to replace some plugged breather hoses. I find that the Jag and Rover PCV systems have an orifice in the valve cover for the PCV that gets plugged up
    If your Mass Air Flow Sensor has oil on it, I have found that cleaning is kind of a temporary fix at best, if it fixes anything at all. it is very much like pouring oil on the mother board of computer, it does damage. Cleaning off the mother board is too little too late.
