does the airbag suppose to deploy in a 2007 mazda 3 when hit from the driver side in the car?

  Very like it would deploy if the car were to be hit anywhere in the front or side areas if the impact could throw you into the steering wheel or dash whether it's on the driver's side or straight on. If the car were hit from the rear and you didn't hit anything in front of you it probably wouldn't deploy, I suppose, but it's programmed to protect you in a crash.
