the car I have is a Escort GT it knocks and rattles at the stop lights...problem is that it sat for about 6 or 7 years in rugget Michigan weather. Everything almost rusted under the hood. I've replaced transmission, brake lines, radiator hose now I'm told it might be the air hose. Any suggestions? Is it worth saving?

If the car is still mechanically safe and some what reliable its worth keeping it running unless the cost of maintaining it approaches a monthly car payment! Have the car inspected and have the repair shop prioritize what what repairs and maintenance the car would need in the foreseeable future. It sounds like you are being told the air filter housing is the source of the noise, perhaps a broken clip or housing bolt. Ask is it a safety issue or will it cause any harm to the engine?
