Question: Air Filter Element - Lifetime Part?

I have been told I by the dealer I need to replace a lfetime part. Has anyone had to replace a lifetime part?
Dealer is giving me a price of $535 plus labor. Does this seem reasonable?

    Hopefully one of the Ford Techs can answer this. I don't understand why they did this but it is an expensive air filter.

    For what reason is the air filter being suggested for replacement on your Focus?

    I do not believe the air filter is "lifetime", however, it does not get replaced every 30,000 miles.

    The price seems excessive.... I believe it's the whole air box assembly they are selling you. What is the reasoning given?
