Apparently I have a coolant leak in or around my evaporator. Is there any way to access it without removing the dash?

My suggestion is to get a repair manual if your going to work on your own vehicle, and it's easy and inexpensive to get a high quality repair manual. To be better prepared, read up on the job you're about to perform, it will show you component locations, bolt torque settings and what special tools you'll need.
