I heard a screeching sound and saw a plume of smoke from the engine compartment. I smell burnt rubber but engine now runs fine except the A/C quit working. Is it ok to drive the car with A/C off til I get to a repair facility?

Masteri believe the ac is run by a separate belt. in that case, yes. the compressor probably lockked p. will require compressor, reciever and complete flush.
