Question: air bag wont work

My air bag light is on.Dealership says passenger air bag pad needs replacing. They charge $300 or so dollars. What is a air bag pad anyway?

    if the dealer diagnosed the problem, why didn't you ask them? you could always get a second opinion at a reputable local shop. not that the dealer is dishonest or
    anything.

    Well when they mentioned three hundred dollars I didnt ask ? Anyway Im curious now thats why Im asking you. It didnt effent my engine performance so I was not to worried at the time.
