2004 Hyundai Santa Fe Question: air bag light

Question

air bag light stays on, it is outside of warranty, local dealership tried to rip me off about a leaking power steering hose that Jiffy Lube, 2 other garages and neither of my company fleet truck mechanics can locate. Any idea about fixes or confirmation without risking the rip off? The other locations do not have the diagnostic machine that the dealership has. But since they supposedly physically saw a problem that atleast 6 other mechanics do not, I have some question about their integrity. Since it has been two years since it was noticed and I have neither experienced any problems or performance indicators that this problem exists, this is a problem that they could easily drag me over the coals about and I have no way to verify.

It is possible that the dealership has encountered this problem and it's cause and other shops have not, but you are correct in getting a second opinion. I recommend that next time they try to sell you something, have them show you the problem. If it is leaking, then they should be able to show you the leak. An honest shop will do this. This helps to build trust and helps prevent you from being ripped off by unscrupulous mechanics.

I have checked to see if Hyundai had any service bulletins related to the Airbag System on your Santa Fe. They do not appear have any common problems. Hyundai are very helpful to people in the repair industry and offer much of their training information and workshop manuals online for free, www.hmaservice.com

You are completly wrong. I have an 05"xg350 and the light has come on 6 times. it was fixed under warranty and out. Now they want to replace the entire sytem and charge me for it. I will see them in court soon. there are hundreds of complaints on the web about Hyundai airbags issues and they refuse to acknowledge it. You must work for them or have an inside connection. My dealership has an F rating with the BBB. Easy case to win, ater speaking with several attorney's. many people have been seriously injured because on the issues. People need to be informed and start a class action suit.

I had the air bag light on and the dealer discovered a loose connection ot the sensor under the passenger fromt seat. Check on all these connections as stuff may be kicked under the seat and loosten the wires.

I had this happened to me with the airbag light staying on my Honda Element is a 2004. I took it to the dealer and I did not pay anything, because according to the dealer this has a lifetime warranty. Please find out what has a lifetime warranty and what doesn't, so you do not get ripped off by a dishonest dealer.
