Question: air bag deployed

I hit a curb and the air bags on the passenger side deployed. No damage to car, just a scraped tire. Should it deploy so quickly and why is it so expensive to repair?

    Only certified air bag technicians repair these systems because peoples lives are at stake, But if you have full coverage auto insurance this should be covered under your comprehensive insurance which usually has no deductable. call your agent

    The airbags should only deploy if you are going above a certain speed (around 10mph), so it depends a lot on how you hit that curb.

    Additionally airbags are 'supposed' to be inspected/replaced every 10 years so with a 2001 you're right at that mark anyway.
