If I put it into drive quickly after starting then it is fine, but any other time I put it in drive the trasmision starts in 2nd or 3rd. But if I turn it off and start over it is fine. Is it a sensor or some electrical problem or is it the trasnmision itself?
after putting my truck into gear it often will start in 3rd instead of first. on 2003 Dodge Ram 2500
I would get the codes checked. Sometimes when the transmission control module detects a fault, it will go into a "limp-home" mode, which can start off in 2nd or 3rd gear.

+unfortunatly I have also had this problem and the fix is transmission overhaul, as there is a simple oning failing that is the cause, if you put the selector in low and move it up as you drive it should still shift all the gears
