We have received a flyer from our dealer to add 2 years/30k miles to our extended warranty for $2970. We have 70k miles and plan to keep the vehicle. We have had problems with Navigation, passenger heater control and whining in the front end that have NOT been diagnosed or repaired properly. Would you pay the additional warranty coverage? How much does it cost to replace the navigation system or the heater control panel?

How long is the current extended warranty period? When would the new one go into effect?

The current warranty expires on 9/2/2009. We have to sign up for the new one before 7/2/2009. We have had the vehicle in the shop twice for the navigation and three times for the heater control. They are unable to duplicate the problems and have changed a few parts hoping it will fix the issue.

My suggestion is you shop around, you can often by the exact same warranty elsewhere. Since the shop cannot determine what is causing the problems, it will be hard to know if an extended warranty will cover the parts. Check the contract well and see if they cover the electronic components.
