Acura recalls

The shift interlock system is designed to prevent the shifter from being moved out of the park position unless the brake pedal is depressed. These vehicles are being recalled because during sub-freezing temperatures, the interlock mechanism may be slow to operate. The could allow the shifter to be moved from the park position when it should not be allowed to do so. As a result the vehicle could roll unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will install an updated shift interlocking mechanism to correct this concern.

The Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) system is designed to help keep the vehicle from skidding if the driver tries to round a corner too quickly. This is achieved by applying the brake at one or more wheels as necessary. During the manufacturing process an electrical capacitor in the VSA control module may have been damaged. This can cause intermittent minor application of the brakes or if the driver were to apply the brakes while the VSA is malfunctioning, the vehicle may come to an abrupt stop. Additionally, due to a loose electrical ground connection, on certain 2005 Pilots the VSA system may unexpectedly apply partial brake force without illumination of the brake lights. Sudden inadvertent braking, especially without illumination of the brake lights, may increase the risk of a crash. Dealers will install a partial wiring harness containing a capacitor for the VSA system, the affected Pilots models will have their ground connection tightened.

Prolonged under-hood and power steering fluid temperatures may cause the power steering hose to deteriorate resulting in cracks and power steering fluid leakage. Power steering fluid can leak onto the catalytic converter leading to smoke and possibly an under-hood fire. Dealers will install a new heat resistant power steering hose to correct this concern. Honda is recalling 2,430 vehicles because a driver's airbag inflator, installed as a replacement part, may be defective. In the event of deployment, these inflators could produce excess internal pressure and rupture, increasing the risk of injury to vehicle occupants. Dealers will inspect and replace the driver's airbag inflator as necessary. The recall is expected to begin by June 27, 2011. 

A leak may develop from one of the power steering hoses. Fluid could leak onto the hot exhaust pipe, increasing the risk of a fire. Dealers will perform the repairs necessary to correct this concern. This recall is expected to begin on May 28, 2010. The Acura recall number is R35.
