I was told I needed my rear engine mount replaced on my 2000 toyota solara; the shop orginally quoted me about $300 - called back a few hours in and said it was more difficult so it would be an extra hundred or so.... Then he called back saying he was most likly going to have to replace my right axel because it is in the way of replacing the engine mount... does this sound right? Now it is looking more like $800 to replace the one rear engine mount...

if he is quoting you $300 to replace the rear mount then thats how much you should pay...

the fact that he has to go through alot of trouble does not mean you should have to pay-

it's very cramped behind there, but they should be able to get to the mount without pulling the entire car apart-

take to a different mechanic, sounds like this one does not know whats involved in the very common job
