True...it MAY be your fan control unit, but what I have experienced is that it is actually the fan motor itself. The S430 had a design flaw in the reed valve within the fresh air box (right side of car under hood near fire wall)....it got clogged with muck and causes water to enter the fan box and leak into the floor board of the passenger side. What it also does is temporarily submerges the bottom of the fan motor (the fan motor bearing) in water consequently causing the motor to fail. These fan units are sealed and cannot be taken apart to be repaired (unfortunately). I have found that removing the fan motor and checking to see if the fan spins freely with a vigorous spin can reduce the possibility of replacing unneccessarily expensive parts. If in fact the fan spins freely, then yes I agree that it COULD BE the fan contol module. BUT before I would go for that option..I would check the left fuse box (as you sit in the drivers seat) and check fuse #23 AND the right fuse box, fuse #35. You may check to see if the EC button on your automatic climate control is lit. If it is, the owners manual says that it may be a weak charge in your A/C system wherein your car will automatically disable the compressor as to not damage the compressor. Outside of these suggestions, I have no other personal experiences to share.
