2000 Saturn SL2 Question: AC hose replacement

, 1.9L 4 Cylinder DOHC, Fairview, NJ, July 29, 2010, 18:36

My ac does not work. Had it diagnosed with the dye. Found a slit in the hose that attaches to the compressor. How much should this cost to replace hose?

Similar thing happened on my '06 4cyl Vue, failure at bend in the aluminum line near the compressor.

Labor quote was $379 from a shop, $200 from a backyard mechanic.
Parts were about $200, including main line, new drier, and R134a.

I ended up doing the repair myself, and paying a few bucks to a A/C tech to charge the system.
