A/C stops blowing cold air when outside temp >80 in stop and go traffic. I was told by the dealership that the A/C clutch needed to be replaced which they said would cost around 700+ to fix. They also recommened replacing the compressor at the same time for an additional 200 dollars. My car is only 4 years old but they said I had a lot of miles on it. I have 70,000 miles which is higher than ave but not a lot of miles for a Volvo. First, is this a faulty A/C and second, is this a fair repair cost?

2006 Volvo S40 Question: A/C compressor and clutch repair cost

I've seen this issue with several A/C clutches on Volvo's, so I'm not surprised, and the shop is giving good advice in that for an additional $200 you get a completely new compressor and clutch. The price is on the high end, but what you'd expect at the dealer. Labor is 2-3 hours ($350-$375, not including diagnosis) and parts are $400 - $500.
Expensive but worth it when the summer is here.
