2001 Ford Focus

Question: AC Compressor

Question

Visitor, 2.0L 4 Cylinder SOHC, Somerset, KY, April 27, 2011, 18:02

My daughter has a 2001 Ford Focus and the ac went out. We took it to the ford place here in somerset, Ky and they stated that the compressor, dryer and reciever must be replaced and quoted me a price of $900.00. I check the parts place and if I had to replace the above the parts are only 400.00. Anyone out there that can check to see what I really need. Signed: hate to get ripped off. Daughter is going to EKU this fall

This is an average price for a dealership A/C compressor, dryer and reciever replacement. Yes, typically a dealership will charge a bit more for parts and labor for factory parts, but the consistant quality is usually higher. The technicians can not work at the dealership without being completely factory certified. These certifications that are required are many times more stringent than ASE. Then again, you might save a $100 or so at an independant and have no problems at all. Good choice in school BTW.
