Just had refrigerant topped off, so it's not low... was blowing nice, cold air when sitting @ stoplight, horrible noise, burning smell, then no more cold air. Turned off a/c button, kept fan on, popped hood, belt still fine and turning compressor pulley, no more smell, turned on a/c button and clutch starts turning for a sec. and then starts screaming and either slipping or binding, can't tell which, but it's not turning fast like it should, and of course no cold air.

Sounds like you compressor has seized, either due to a lack of refrigent oil or an over charge condition.
You will need a new compressor.

It ended up being the clutch. Thank goodness....after breaking off the hub bolt (no fun) finally got it off and replaced the clutch assembly and all is well and blowing cold! Hope it lasts...
