Question: ABS module and air bag function

Does the ABS control module affect the air bags in the car? My ABS control module needs to be replaced and my mechanic told me that my airbags might not work. Is this true?

    There is a module specifically for the air bags, and one for the ABS. The one for the airbags is called the SRS Module (supplemental restraint system) and if the SRS light is not on, the system will function properly.
