If a timing chain goes in a 2000 Intrepid with a 2.7L, can it still have compression and spark?

If the timing chain "goes" internal engine damage is likely. Timing will be off sync and the engine will not start. Valve damage is definite.

nope,sorry if the valve timing slips out by a loose chain just a link or 2 is enough to cause possible damaged valves and major repairs are in order.More damage is usually done at high engine speed than at the time of starting an engine.Some High mileage engines,have chain and tenstioner failures. Some like the 3.8 Gm go and go and go no problems.
