There can be several reasons for this code to occur. It is from a small leak in the fuel evaporative system. This may be from a gas cap not being installed correctly or leaking, or a leaking fuel evaporative lines, gas tank, charcoal canister or a bad shut-off valve. The gas cap needs to be checked with a tester and the system checked for leaks.
Your best bet is a Volvo shop that deals with these problems on a regular basis.

If you know the leak is coming from the gas cap gasket, instead of buying the Volvo product for $30, go to your local auto parts store and purchase the Stant version that fits your car for under $10. The Volvo part is more substantial so just use a fine screwdriver to remove the gasket from each and swap them. Volvo says they sell a gasket but its not true; and also not very "green" of them.

My local dealer said my '01 S60 has to have the fuel tank shut-off valve ( Volvo p/n 9486016 - $131.56) ) and the attached hose ( Volvo p/n 1270255 - $23.72 ) replaced. They want over $300 Labor to install so I bought the parts & took to my local mechanic who's very good. He called me and said to replace the valve and hose he'd have to DROP the bgas tand and the entire EXHAUST SYSTEM. He removed athe rear wheel next to the gas filler and was hoping for a "access panel" to provide a means to change out - nothing.
To the technical team on this forum....it seems unbelievable that the gas tank & exhaust system need to be removed to replave these parts...HELP!
Any words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated.
