1999 Volkswagen Beetle Q&A
1999 Volkswagen Beetle Question: '99 vw beetle - right after starting makes a noise like a kazoo!
This may be a bad bearing. It may be in the starter, but it may be in the front engine area, like the water pump, timing belt tensioner or something else, it's really hard to know without hearing it. My suggestion to you is to have a mechanic look at it and get their opinion, because this may be an indicator that something is about to fail, like the timing belt tensioner, and that can get real expensive real quick! - Bret Bodas
i think i already posted an answer...but if u r driving a 5 speed...like i said..try cranking the car in N...(middle gear) AND JUST ENOUGH TO START THE CAR...because mine does that sometimes..and i thought something was wrong with my car and they laughed at me lol - scrappyjsm
right off cannot remember what it's called... my 99 does same thing occasionally. will find out what it's called but...not a huge issue. part needs a small dab of grease. according to My VW mechanic, it's really nothing to worry about (not a starter or what have you) I will find out as soon as I talk to My vw mechanic - corn1
