2007 Ford Fusion Question: 45000 mile maintenance check

Question

I am getting a quote of $350 from Quicklane in Fairfax if coolant is replaced. Is this a normal price? This is part of a 45000 mile maintenance checkup. If coolant is orange or green it must be replaced at 45,000. ($200) If gold colored it can wait until 100,000.

When I look up the 45k maintenance on this car at the repairpal estimator link on the home page it says just check the cooling system, does not say anything about changing the coolant, your owners manual should tell you what to do as you check which schedule you qualify for, there are some differences depending on driving conditions, also say that the estimate $ was at least $150 less depending on the area you live in.

Thanks for your info and you are exactly right. I mentioned to them that coolant change was NOT part of the 45000 mile maintenance check an they told me they go beyond what the manufacturer recommends. I told them to just skip it. They also wanted $200 for replacing cabin filter but my model doesn't have one. I got out of there for$103. Still probably too much. Glorified oil change is what most these maintenance checks are. Thanks again raiderron.

Coolant is not a part of a 45,000 mile check up. It is 100,000 miles on this car.

Your 45,000 mile inspection should consist of an oil and filter change, tire rotation and multi point inspection. If you consider your driving conditions "severe", then you should also replace your engine air filter, cabin air filter and fuel filter.

    Hope this helps.

Dave - Thanks for your advice. I like to go strictly by the maintenance manual. If it's not on the list I don't get it done. Your information is correct - Appreciate that!

According to the checklist for the 45k it is extensive, that is what they are charging extra for. Alot of shops do the same checklist for the same price as the LOF. If have to attach test equipment or remove tires/wheels then they also will likely charge for in depth inspections. Keep in mind that as long as you have your documentation you can have the maintenances done at any shop you choose.
