2001 Dodge Grand Caravan

 

Question: 3.8L runs rough/hesitates acceleration when cold

The van runs well except upon first starting up. It almost dies, then slightly revs itself several times, including when first accelerating. Once the engine is fully warmed up the behavior disappears.

    It's possible that there's a malfunction in the idle air control (IAC) system, or it and the throttle body are fouled with carbon. You may be able to clean the IAC and the throttle body if you have the skills and inclination.
    Otherwise, find a Dodge specialist, if I'm right it's not too expensive a repair. If it's something else, the Dodge guy should be able to diagnose it.
