Some cars tell you not to break them in on synthetic oil as the oil rings won't break in properly. If it is still under warentee use the oil and filter recommended by the manufacturer and make a written complaint about the oil consumption and document each oil change using a Nissan oil filter. If oil consumption does not improve complain loudly but a car manufacturer I have worked for would not authorize repairs unless oil consumption reached 1 quart per thousand miles which I would say is totally unacceptable.
