Question: 2007 Pontiac back seat rust problems

Question

The child safety clips in the back seat of my car have rusted into my leather seat. I do not know what could have possibly caused this to happen, however the dealership said that the only option to fix the clips was to sand them down and repaint them, and to replace the leather if they couldn’t remove the stain. I was wondering if anyone was familiar with this model and could tell me if in fact that is only way to resolve the problem?

Are the rusted safety clips in the seat bottom or on the package shelf? Could it be that your car was wet inside at one time? If the problem is with the floor clips remove the seat bottom if you can a look to see if there is more rust under the seat. As far as fixing the problem, what ever is rusted should be painted or replaced and if the stain cannot be removed the the seat cover will need to be replaced also. Still under warranty?
