No idiot light came on, first time it has happened. I had turned the car off and then tried to turn it back on suddenly. Is it like a computer where the info gets confused and has to be shut down to reboot?

it will crank but sounds like it isn't getting gas. then won't start . like the computer tells it not to start

well, you need 3 things to run. spark, fuel and compression.
you need to find out what is missing. my guess is the fuel pump has failed as it is a very common failure.
