2001 ford explorer sport turns over but will not crank. on 2001 Ford Explorer

The truck has a new fuel pump and filter. When a gas soaked rag was placed in the intake tube the truck ran. I assume its an injector issue, but what would cause the injectors not to pulse?

Surely someone has checked the inertia switch? Also the fuel pressure? Then the injector pulse with a noid light, surely those things have been done? When working on a vehicle, never ASS U ME anything!
Thank you for the response, it turns out the impeller came off the bottom of the fuel pump. I put a new pump in and runs great now, I did find out that the pressure regulator is bad so I will have to replace that too.
Cool! Thanks for the reply.

I agree with pushrod it does sound like your inertia switch has tripped but just a guess
