That engine uses a timing chain to time the cam and crankshaft sprockets, the balance shaft is driven directly by gear to gear contact and should never go out of time like a n engine that would time the balance shaft with a separate timing belt.I would get a second opinion and hope the imbalance is sometime more simple. With a professional grade scan tool look for misfire counts and anything in Mode 6 that may not yet be severe enough to set a code. May be first get your mechanic to try this.

I will try to get him to get in contact with them. But I might have to take it somewhere else.Let me ask this I have driven the van over 500 miles trying to get a code.Would this not be enough to set a code? Before this happen I did the 171&174 fix it ran good for about four weeks. My wife was going up a hill one day and it started running rough.I changed out the coil, iac, plugs&wires, tps, dpfe and checked for vacuum leak even did the 171&174 again. After that I took it to my mechanic.I think he wants to go the easy way and replace the eng.If he doesn't get in contact with Identafix I'm going to get my van back.Is there something I can try before I take it to another mechanic.Thank you for your reply.
