My daughter is away at college with her 1999 Volvo S80. She indicates the car will not start as the key will not turn. I am 1.5 hours away, so I am looking for some places to start my diagnosis. She said it acted this way intermittently, but now she has not been able to turn the key. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Have her turn the steering wheel in case tires are binding against a curb/parking block. Try another spare key, If that doesn't work will probably have to replace the ign/key lock cylinder.

U Bet! If you need another ign/key lock, search internet. Usually Dealer has to order replacement from Europe, Very Expensive$$$ Let me know if I can help further.

tell her to kindly make sure the vehicle is in park all the way befor turning the key and not to force it ..as it may break..if it still does not turn then it may either be key problem.(wrong key)or the ignition cylinder.

Just a little gentle massage of the key in the ignition tumbler and, ... vrroom. Thank you very much. Very happy dad, and a happier daughter.
