Question: 1995 ford taurus stops while driving what causes this?

After I sit for a little while it will start back up but engine rattles and white smoke comes from exhaust.

  head gasket is shot it also sounds like the water pump went

• jerking when changing from 1-2nd gear/auto trans
  well maintained car. automatic..when driving, car will jerk when trans shifts from 1-2nd gear. np after that. has been like this for about 5 years. no worse, no better. want to give to my daughter....
