1990 GMC Suburban 1500 Question: 1988 suburban stalling

my 1988 suburban keeps stalling. It starts no problem, but when put into gear it stalls also stalls when backing up or inching forward. Runs fine in idol, and if I put brake and little gas at same time it won't stall.

I see a idle speed adjustment time in the book, Does this 88 Suburban have a Rochester Carburetor if it does remove the air cleaner and on the drivers side of the carburetor there's a small flat blade screw that adjusts the idle speed, with the engine off turn it to the right a little then start it up and see if it still stalls, Sometimes a set of spark plugs and cap and rotor will make a big difference.

    Thanks for your reply.
It also back fires forgot to add that.
The plugs etc were just done. also pcv valve was replaced too. I
dont know what kind of carb it is. how can you tell. Is there anything else that might cause this problem.
Could you also put into lower gear.....haven't tried that one.

try replacing egr valve cause i have a 1990 and it does the same thing but replacing egr valve might work for yours. I will try replacing spark plug wires next on mine. Good luck

check your distributor timing as well as vaccum advance if your truck has one ................also check to see what kinda fuel pressure you have might be your fuel pump and check or replace the fuel filter if its plugged to where you cant blow thru it easily then thats what it is.
