2003 Infiniti I35 Question: 10 months, almost$4,000+. in repairs,replacements, HELP ME PLEASE!!!
ORIGINAL OWNER, 137000 MILES, IMPECABLE MAINTENANCE RECORD. UNTIL LAST SPRING I HAD ONLY TYPICAL MINOR REPAIRS NEEDED & THEN STARTING SPRING 2010 EVERY FEW MONTHS SOMETHING MAJOR & COSTLY & IT ALL SEEMS TO ME RELATED TO THE PRIOR REPAIRS. HERES THE REPAIR HISTORY SINCE SPRING 2010. APRIL2010 REPLACED CRACKED BALL JOINT FOUND WHEN TAKING OFF SNOW TIRES. MAY 2010 STEERING SHAKING @55+ MPH REPAIRED MISSING BALL BEARINGS & BRAKES NEEDED REPLACEMENT. JUNE 2010 FAN GETTING LOUD HEARD IT IN & OUTSIDE OF CAR & FAN ALSO RATTLING, REPLACED FAN. REPLACEMENT FAN WAS LOUDER THAN ORIGINAL FROM IN & OUT SIDE OF CAR & WOULD RUN FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME, BROUGHT IT BACK IN (DEFECTIVE FAN?), 2ND REPLACEMENT FAN IS LOUDER THAN ORIGINAL BUT NOT AS LOUD AS 1ST REPLACEMENT HOWEVER IT RUNS CONSTANTLY, HAVE BROUGHT IT IN NUMEROUS TIMES CAN'T SEEN TO FIND PROBLEM & CAN'T FIX IT SO I LIVE WITH IT LOUD & RUNNING ALL THE TIME. AUG 2010 CAR RUNNING HOT STALLS CAN'T RESTART REPLACED RADIATOR HOSE. OCTOBER 2010 STOPPED @ TRAFFIC LIGHT ACCELERATED TO DRIVE FORWARD CAR JERKS THEN LUNGES FORWARD 5+/- FT, FOLLOWED BY LOUD GRINDING NOISE, CAR STALLS/SEIZES, LOSE ALL POWER, STEERING WHEEL LOCKS, NO BRAKES TO STOP CAR FROM ROLLING BACKWARDS COMPRESSED EMERGENCY BRAKE, SHIFTER LOCKED & CAN'T MOVE FROM D. REPAIRS MADE WERE; FOUND ABCESS ON INSIDE OF DRIVER FRNT TIRE, REPLACED TIRE, FLUSHED TRANSMISSION FLUID,BRAKE FLUID FLUSH & CLEANED, REPLACED P/S RACK & PINION CAR Q (LEAKING LFT BOOT OPEN) 2 TIE ROD ENDS, 3 GASKETS, PS FLUID, DEGREASER, REPLACED RIGHT FRNT AXEL SEAL (LEAKING), PRESSURE TEST COOLING SYSTEM FOUND LEAKING COOLANT TUBE @ OIL COOLER REPLACED TUBE, COOLANT,HOSE CLAMP, CHECK FOR SES LIGHT ON FOUND CODE P1217 ENGINE TEMP OVERHEAT, BLOCK TEST, LUBE, OIL & FILTER TOTAL COST $2761.47, DEC 2010 STEERING NOISE (WHINNING) WHEN TURNING PS FLUID OK, REPLACED 2 PS PUMPS. MAY 2011 TOWING CAR IN TOMARROW THERE IS NO POWER STEERING AT ALL ESPECIALLY WHN BRAKE IS APPLIED, WITH SOME SPEED CAR IS SOMEWHAT EASIER TO TURN WHEEL BUT WITHOUT SPEED ITS LIKE TURNING WHEEL WHILE IN PARK. you did not state that you are taking your car to a good independent Japanese specialist or the dealership. the dealer is ALWAYS 25% more than anyone else and sometimes less than honest. my shop specializes in German cars and i always tell people that when a car goes over 100,000 miles, they can expect to spend $2000 to $2500 a year on maintenance. some years will be more and some are less, but that's the average after 30 years in this business. it is much like the human body; the young ones need little but as you get close to 60 or 70 years, everything starts to fail! that's just the way it is. yes, a second opinion is ALWAYS a good idea, but more important is finding a shop that has the best reputation in town. someone you know and can trust is never the cheapest, but they are honest to a fault. - overbys
